Construction
For construction projects, understanding the significance of the site, determining how the site may be appropriately restored or rehabilitated, selecting a qualified design team and contractor, meeting the submittal requirements of reviewing bodies, and ensuring the work is completed according to the approved plans all contribute to the smooth progress of a project. Poor management can lead to delays in project completion and significant cost increases.
Histórica can provide assistance with the initial planning of projects, provide input to the design to ensure compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards, submit the required applications, attend review board meetings, and monitor on-site progress.
Please see below for information on past projects.
Annie Beck House

Project management of a six-mile relocation of a wood frame house through downtown Fort Lauderdale to a city-owned park. Exterior and interior restoration of the structure was completed and the house is now used as a meeting place by the local community. Approximately half of the costs for the relocation and restoration were grant-funded.
Gylen Castle

Project management of interior excavation, stone-by-stone recording, and building analysis of a 16th-century tower house. This work was required to identify the construction history of the structure, ensure the consolidation of the stonework was undertaken correctly, and for the appropriate installation of stairs and informational boards for public access and information.
Boynton Woman's Club

Project management assistance was provided to members of the Woman’s Club for the restoration of wood frame windows and doors on this National and Local Register listed property. The windows were removed for off-site restoration and then reinstated. A significant portion of the cost of this project was grant-funded.
Westgate Co-operative Building

Project management of the rehabilitation of a 19th-century commercial building for use as affordable housing units. Funded through a revolving fund and significant grant-funding, this surplus property was donated to a building preservation trust for rehabilitation. A final sale price was agreed with the end user prior to completion of the project which allowed their input into the final design.
Las Olas Beach Club

Monitoring of the restoration of the facade of the former Lauderdale Beach Hotel which was protected by a facade easement. Most of the interior of the original hotel was removed; however, the facade was incorporated into a new development. All work to the facade was monitored for compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
Laurieston House

Assistant project manager for the rehabilitation of an 18th-century mansion house in Glasgow for commercial uses. Restoration work included roof and cupola repairs, interior repairs of the staircase, plasterwork, and fire surrounds, and repainting based on paint analysis of the original colors. This property was sold to an end user prior to completion of the interior build out.
