Survey and Recording

The level of detail required for survey and recording services will vary according to the purpose and the proposed project. It could simply entail photographing the sites and undertaking research of historic documents and building records. In other instances, a full survey and detailed documentation may be required with input from other professionals such as archaeologists, conservators, a 3D scanning team, and engineers. Boynton Municipal Cemetery

Survey and recording of the Old Section of Boynton Beach Cemetery. All grave markers were mapped and photographed, and details of materials, epitaphs, and condition were recorded. All of the survey data was added to an interactive map which could be accessed by the public.

Newhailes House Shell Grotto

Interior excavation, recording, and interpretation of an 18th-century shell house grotto. The interior excavation uncovered shells from around the world and metallic decorative features that once covered the interior of the structure. The recording identified voids within the walls that channeled smoke from interior fireplaces to the exterior to give the appearance the structure was shrouded in mist.

Sara Simms Cemetery

Survey and recording of an African American and Bahamian cemetery. All grave markers were fully recorded and photographed. The survey identified the existence of original walkways and markers which had become covered with grass. The results may be used to assist with future repairs to the site.

Inchinnan Road

Excavation, recording, and interpretation of a development site which, records indicated, was once the location of a medieval prison. Excavators were used to dig a series of trenches across the site. No medieval prison was located; however, the remains of a 20th-century shipyard and the foundations of an 18th-century mansion house were uncovered. All features were fully recorded.

Bolsover Castle

Survey and recording of the exterior and interior of a 17th-century riding house. The exterior recording was used to correct the stonework patterns on drawings of the elevations. The interior recording aided interpretation of the building by highlighting alterations to the original design.

Dryhope Tower

Survey, stone-by-stone recording, and interpretation of a 16th-century tower house. This work was required for the consolidation of the stonework to make the site safe for visitors and the installation of a staircase to provide rooftop access. The survey results were interpreted to create information boards with renderings showing the original appearance of the structure.
